Tips: In order to successfully do business with the Chinese, it is vital to build up a mutual trust. Westerners normally operate by building transactions first and, if they are successful, a relationship (Chinese call it Guanxi) will ensue. However, the Chinese believe that prospective business partners should build a relationship first and, if successful, commercial transactions will follow. This difference underlies many misunderstandings arising during business negotiations. Virtually all successful transactions in China result from careful cultivation of the Chinese partner by the foreign one, until a relationship of trust evolves.

If such a relationship and trust is built, price negotiations will become much smoother. We have much experience of building relationships and trust. As a result, we have already set up good relationships with various manufacturers, marketing companies and local governments in different parts of China.
