China's economy continues to grow fast and strong. However, it is also an embryonic economy that has many product, technology and service “gaps” that need to be filled. As China continues to develop, a continual stream of new gaps will emerge and create opportunities to start exciting, new companies and joint ventures. Hence, more Chinese businesspersons and companies are investing abroad to search for the right Western partners to fill those gaps.
Up until now, most of the businesses involved have been going to China for low cost manufacturing support and services, but mainly for export. However, with the increasing costs in China and competition from other countries, the advantage of low cost manufacturing will gradually lessen. The next stage of development, which is potentially more interesting to European and Western businesses in general, is in the area of services and businesses related to the emerging internal Chinese market. However, it is fundamentally important to know how to create unique selling points in order to avoid competing with the local Chinese market.

Low labour costs and high profits make business with China very attractive. However it is fundamentally important to make sure there are no ethical problems, such as the use of child labour and workers suffering from daily exposure to dangerous substances. Most companies are looking for low labour costs in order to be competitive, but are keen to avoid unethical exploitation of workers. We take these issues very seriously, and take great care to recommend only organisations with high ethical standards. Camellia Universal is also advising and encouraging European and American companies to check ethical standards of manufacturers, before they source or manufacture products from China. In order to protect the welfare of workers, we are also giving advice to Chinese manufacturers and encouraging them to meet these ethical standards.
